Honoring Icons of Freedom and Equality

This year's Juneteenth event focuses on the remarkable lives and legacies of Phillis Wheatley, Harriet Tubman, Josephine Baker, Martin Luther King Jr, and Coretta Scott King—each of whom has significantly impacted Boston and beyond. These figures, who fought tirelessly for freedom and equality, will be celebrated through various forms of expression.

Attendees can look forward to live performances, including music, dance, spoken word, and visual arts. Featured acts include local talents like Osamase Ekhator, Amanda Shea, DJ Fab, Paul Willis, Trend N Motion, and many more, who will bring the stories and struggles of these iconic figures to life.

This event is designed to be interactive, allowing participants to engage with the historical and cultural narratives that shape Juneteenth. It’s an opportunity to reflect on the progress made and the journey ahead, in a space that encourages dialogue and shared stories.

Community, Culture, and Cuisine

Beyond performances, the event will offer an assortment of local foods and drinks, free for attendees, ensuring a day filled with not only culture and education but also community celebration. This environment aims to foster connections and remember the ancestors who paved the way for freedom and equality.

"For a third year running, I'm happy to be a part of such an amazing event commemorating an historic day in American history," said Osamase Ekhator, the event's longstanding co-curator. "This year, were focused on highlighting the Black pioneers who have a connection to Boston, before and after Juneteenth."

This event is not just a celebration but an homage to those who endured and fought for their rights. In the words of Phillis Wheatley, let us "leave the rolling universe behind" and come together in unity and reflection.
